Obesity and Heart Disease May be Reduced by Herbal Remedy

Scientists in Germany have found that herbal extracts from Tabebuia impetiginosa could be added to a food supplement that will aid weight loss and potentially lessen the chance of developing coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

The Tabebuia impetiginosa is a deciduous tree that can be found in South and Central America. The inner bark of the tree is used medicinally as the tea called Lapacho or Taheebo. This can be taken during the cold and flu season and is always used to alleviate a smoker's cough. It used to be used by herbalists to treat cancer but is now recommeded to treat short term ailments.

The scientists have discovered that Tabebuia impetiginosa can reduce triglyceride levels, absorption of dietary fat. This may help obese people although trials have not occured on humans.
